Master Mehrdad Khan Moayedi, an 8th Dan Blackbelt, was trained under prominent grandmasters across Asia, India and Canada in various disciplines. These disciplines included Hapkido, Kung Fu, Thai Chi, and Muay Thai, as well as Om Yoga. Master Mehrdad opened his first dojo in 1993 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He started his school with a dream to not only share his knowledge of Martial Arts, but to also build a professional fighting organization.
Master Mehrdad founded “Shin Do Kumaté”, a professional Muay Thai organization that aimed to bring some of the best fighters in the world together and shed light on this extremely honorable but intense sport. Master Mehrdad was also very much involved in the community and wanted to bring together local Martial Art Schools and their students. He created the The Muay Thai Classic in 1994 for amateur fighters, which allowed both children and adults to test their skills and teachings in a friendly atmosphere thereby strengthening the sports community. In 2002, he produced the first Shin Do Kumaté event which aired on Fox Sports. This show marked the first pro Muay Thai event ever to be sanctioned by the Florida State Boxing Commission. He went on to produce 16 more professional events for TV and distributed them to several countries around the world for broadcast. As a father of four girls, he wanted to broaden the spectrum for female fighters giving them professional debuts and title fights, which at the time was unheard of in the sport. Above teaching and being a promoter, Master Mehrdad was also a fierce fighter with a deadly shin kick. He had a long history of fighting competitively and was the first heavy weight title champion in Shin do Kumaté. He submerged himself in his passions and that passion benefited many fighters.
Master Mehrdad’s life sadly ended on April 6, 2020. His loss was sudden and felt around the world. He was a selfless man and will be missed greatly, but those who had the honor to learn from him will carry on his legacy. Master Mehrdad leaves behind a wife of 20 years, four beautiful daughters and two stepsons.
